Do you like mathematical physics, statistical physics, and computing? Or are you an expert in AI/ML (e.g., B.Tech. in AI/CSE at IIT Jodhpur or similar) but want to apply them to soft matter physics? Are you interested in soft matter physics and working on an application-oriented fundamental physics problem in an emerging area of soft matter physics?
We have plenty of in-house developed analysis and simulation codes used in our research. While there is also a large set of free packages/software on the internet that you can use these days, we strongly encourage developing coding/computing tools yourself. Do you like to learn these skills and develop computer codes (Fortran or C/C++) to compute complex physical quantities or parallelize a given CPU program?
Then you are in the right place. You are welcome to discuss your ideas about the research problem, career goals, and action plans well before the beginning of the second semester.
If you are not ambitious or not interested in publishing research paper(s), save your time by not joining us.
Your overall CV quality and your overall indentity when you would be leaving my group for your future endeavors are my highest priorities. Therefore, you must be willing to (i) Work hard on your thesis project, (ii) Clear competitive exams (CSIR-JRF, GATE, etc.), (iii) Be active in the group, (iv) Attend schools/workshops/conferences, and (v) Apply for Ph. D. (or a different target) in top-tier universities. We support your future career plans. If your CV is not your priority, then again, save your time by not joining us.
Finally, you are advised to talk to our current and past group members before deciding.
How to join as a Ph. D. student? [We have multiple openings for the July 2024 cycle of admissions]
Thanks for showing interest in joining our group! Currently, we have openings for 3 Ph. D. candidates seeking admission to IIT Jodhpur through the MHRD fellowship. However, [more openings] if (i) you have an excellent CGPA in a previous degree, (ii) you performed particularly well in mathematical physics, statistical physics, and quantum mechanics, and (iii) you are qualified CSIR-JRF or an equivalent, write an email with your motivation.
Brief concept of Ph. D. thesis problems: (a) Machine learnig and neural network models for polymer electrolytes, (b) Ion transport in polymerized electrolytes (and) Structure and transport near electrolyte-electrode interface, (c) Nanofriction at solid-liquid interfaces, (d) Development of interaction potentials and thermal conductivity in 2D materials, etc.
I appreciate it if you go through our research areas and check out the publications list before contacting me.
How to join as a Postdoctoral Fellow?
If you have completed a Ph.D. (in Physics or Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or Materials Science) within the last three years or submitted a thesis and wish to apply for an independent fellowship, write to me an email with your latest CV. Please apply for SERB National Post Doctoral Fellowship (N-PDF), and watch out SERB website for application cycle.
We have no openings for candidates without a decent experience in molecular simulations (either theoretical/MC/MD/DFT).
How to join as an Intern?
If you are a bright student from a reputed institute/university, email me your motivation and latest CV.
I appreciate it if you go through our research areas and check out the publications list before contacting me.
Are you a postdoc abroad and looking to return back to India?
If you think we can be of help in your transition to India, please write to me.
If you are interested in associating with our group and interested in INSPIRE/Ramanujan fellowship or an equivalent one, please write to me.
