Experiences

  • Designed and developed a novel geometry Cold-plasma Detergent in Environment (CODE) device under an industry sponsored project useful for Better Indoor Air Quality and COVID-19 Pandemic using non-equilibrium cold plasma in combination with nanotechnology. The technical know-how has been transferred to M/s Divya Plasma Solutions Pvt. Ltd. on 9th September, 2021 (A start-up company incubated at IITJ-TISC). The first product was launched on 2nd August, 2022 at the Institute Foundation Day.
  • Designed and developed a few Advance Photocatalytic Oxidation Systems in the year 2020 to fight COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Developed a mercury-free plasma UV-lamps based system compatible to Photocatalytic Oxidation system especially for deodorization purposes under an industry sponsored project by M/s. Vital Hospitality (P) LTD. Vazhuthacaud, Trivandrum-695014, Kerla and the developed technology was successfully transferred to a startup company on 23rd April, 2018.
  • Developed a novel geometry design dielectric barrier discharge-based plasma VUV/UV lamp with binary mixture of xenon and petite halide as a mercury- free water disinfection source in the year 2015, which has shown electrical to UV conversion efficiency as high as 25 %. The developed mercury-free plasma (MFP) UV lamp has been tested on five bacteria namely E. coli, Shigella, Vibrio, coliforms and Fecal coliforms for water in a container equivalent to house-hold water purifier system for 8" UV-lamp and complete deactivation time with 4 log of reduction for these bacteria is found to be 6 sec, 4 sec, 6 sec, 8 sec and 6 sec, respectively. Technology is much superior than the existing mercury based UV lamps and hence has received wide recognition. This indigenous technology has been transferred to two industries on 29th March, 2016.
  • Developed a 20kV/20kA radial multi-channel pseudospark source for high current applications first time in the country in the year 2014.
  • Developed a high current density sheet beam plasma cathode electrode gun with current density as high as 1 kA/cm2 in the year 2013 useful for THz microwave source applications.
  • Developed a novel method to calibrate a VUV spectrometer using penning discharge source and ADAS code in the year 2010. Accordingly, a large volume penning plasma discharge source was developed to establish this as technology in the year 2014 and the developed source was delivered to Institute for Plasma Research, Gandhinagar under national fusion programme.
  • A Plasma Ion Nitriding System consisting of 1050 mm dia and 1050 mm height (working volume), a hot wall reactor along with 25 KW, 30 KHz DC Pulse power supply and 5TR water chiller was successfully executed during the year 2007-2011 at BIT, MESRA Jaipur Centre with the help of FCIPT-IPR, Gandhinagar as technology dissemination facility for industries. The system was capable of treating 500 kg steel load at a time and facility was utilized widely by a number of industries in and around Rajasthan.
  • A new method was developed to Plasma Nitride AISI 52100 ball bearing steel in the year 2011.
  • The double plasma system was designed and built with diffusion pump backed by rotary pump for Ph. D. thesis experiments at CPP-IPR, Guwahati, during 2000-2002.
  • Developed a few power supplies for different traditional metallic probe diagnostics (e.g. Langmuir probe, Emissive probe, Ion energy analyzer, etc.) during 1997-2002.
  • Took part in developing power supply for “Atmospheric pressure glow discharge plasma” at FCIPT, Gandhinagar (Gujarat) in the year 2000.
  • Developed 1D-code for the calculation of the penetration depth of neutral hydrogen from vessel surface to core region in Tokamak plasmas in the year 2003.
  • Developed a few codes in IDL and Matlab to generate synthetic spectra of various species in the year 2003.
  • Acquired good experience of working with spectroscopic tools including wide band high-resolution Echelle spectrometer and advanced spectroscopy data analysis codes like – ADAS, Helium CR-model code, CHIANTI and STRAHL codes, etc. during 2002-2008.
  • Participated in the spectroscopic characterization of “Hallow vertical anode inclined cathode torch”, developed at IPR, under collaborative research work with Dr. P. Vasu and Dr. G. Prasad in the year 1999. This particular plasma torch was developed by IPR scientists for silica and alumina smelting and has later been used for Pyrolysis system development for hospital waste treatment.
